Mike, this is Andy
Klimek from Independence. I am
married to Betty Wiench. I was
going through some Web sites on the
computer the other night, and I ran
across yours. This geneology
thing is so interesting and so easy to
follow, with a computer. Betty
and I went to Poland last spring, and
drove to Popielow, and visited the
cemetaries there. It was like
going to the cemetary in
Independence. All the familiar
names were there, though we didn't
find the graves of the period when my
grand relatives would have lived
there. We were told by some
ladies in the cemetary that after long
periods, they would bury caskets atop
caskets from years ago, to conserve
space in the cemetary. It was a
great trip. I have E mailed a
Kevin Skroch, and I am I still
corresponding with a young lady from
Popielow, who is studying english in
high school, and she said the E mails
help her with her studies. It is
so much fun. Her father is the
innkeeper in Popielow, and his name is
Stanislaw Szymocha. Very nice
people. As a matter of fact, he
maintains the Popielow website at Dom
Kultury (the Hotel). We took a
lot of photos there, and if you'd like
I coul;d send some to you. Betty
and I are doing fine, just getting
older. We don't get down to
Independence much because there isn't
any family there, anymore.
Betty's sister and brother live in
Whitehall, and my sister Rose lives in
waumandee. I have tied up this
phone line for long enough, so I'll
let you go. Take

Mike, This is going to
blow you away. I was
totally unaware of you, as a Mike
Skroch. The Mike Skroch I knew
was the son of a Mike Skroch, an
old long time farmer in
Independence. I did however know
your Father, Donald.
We knew him better as "Cotton Top",
but both my wife and I knew him, and I
also knew your Grandpa, Allie.
He used to work for My Uncles in the
butchershop in Independence..
Smieja Brothers Meat Market. My
Mother eas Agatha Smieja, and her
mother was I believe Julia Skroch.
She died giving birth to my Uncle,
Sylvester Smieja. He owned
Sylver's Bar i Independence, for
years.. Julia was married to
Kasper Smieja. The immigration
documents for that family spelled
their nam,e Schmieja, and they came
from Salzbrunn, Prussia. Where
Salzbrunn is located in relation to
present day Poland, I don't know, but
perhaps, it was near Popielow.
Those borders over there changed
almost daily, from what I could
gather. I knew all of the
Skroch's in Indep, and there was a ton
of them. Some were not related
to others. Much as the Klimek's
in Indep. Ask your Grandpa if he
remembers me. Ask him if he
remembers a n old guy by the name of
"Schnoopsie" If he does, I
will tell you a story about your
Grandpa and this Schnoopsie.
OK? I will get some of the
Popielow pix on scanner and send them
to you, but not tonight. Takje
